Bluebikes is owned by your local municipalities, but operates on the Lyft platform. The Lyft platform creates a single account per rider, which allows you to access many different rideshare & bikeshare services across cities.
Your account on the Lyft platform is connected to your phone number. There can only be one active Lyft account per phone number at a time.
It is not required that you use the same account for Bluebikes as you do for Lyft rideshare. If you’d like to keep your Bluebikes account separate from your Lyft rideshare account, or you want to set up a separate rideshare account in the future, follow these steps:
- Note: You will need two unique phone numbers for this process. If you do not have another phone number, you can use a digital service like Phoner or Google Voice to obtain one. If you would like to use a landline, click “resend code,” and then the “Call Me” button to have a code read over the landline. If that does not work, obtain a second number through one of the services mentioned above.*
- Choose which phone number you want to use for your Bluebikes account, then log into the Bluebikes app with that phone number. This number is now your Bluebikes phone number & can be used to log into your Bluebikes account.
- Use your other phone number to log into your rideshare account via the Lyft app. This number is now your rideshare phone number and can be used to log into the Lyft account.
- Please note that you can use either number to log into either of the apps. However, no data will be shared between these two phone numbers.
